First
Thursday Night of the Month Openings at the San Francisco Art Galleries:
5:30-7:00 pm
Located near Union Square
Main locations: 49 Geary Street and 77 Geary Street
On the first Thursday night of every month, dozens of upscale downtown galleries keep their doors open after hours. A crush of art students, first-time visitors and potential collectors fill the rooms and line the stairs to catch a glimpse of the latest exhibits and meet the artists. . . and each other.
The San Francisco
Art Dealers Association conceived First Thursdays 20 years ago to broaden
the audience base of its members.
Most
of the participating galleries are within a block of each other, making
a variety of styles and mediums easily accessible. Galleries that don't
have openings benefit from the critical mass generated by the monthly
ritual and the big- name artists opening at nearby galleries.
